Dear potential participant in the Fifth International Conference on Language
and Development in Phnom Penh, 5-7 September, 2001
This conference is now imminent. The Call for Papers resulted in
approximately 200 papers being submitted, of which around half have been
timetabled for presentation (see "Program" on the homepage).
The website now contains answers to Frequently Asked Questions (see "FAQs"
on the homepage), and also has Cambodian travel information (accessible from
most pages within the website).
The conference so far has confirmed registrations from 24 countries, with
all continents being represented. We encourage you to register soon, if you
have not already. A separate e-mail with more conference information will
shortly be sent to registered participants. For those without access to
on-line facilities, further enquiries may be submitted to
sreng.mao at phnompenh.idp.edu.au
Highlights include:
· stimulating keynote addresses and a breadth and depth of papers to be
delivered
· live and interactive delivery of a paper by internet to a plenary session
· a provocative plenary poster session on grass-roots methods of "literacy
for survival" in Cambodia
· grouped streams on Day Two afternoon: classroom practice / ELT, plus
literacy program observation
· variety of venue - Hotel Inter-Continental and Royal University of Phnom
Penh
· opportunity for an optional visit (before or after the conference) to
Angkor Wat
Registration is encouraged through the website:
http://www.idpcambodia.org/conference/
Best wishes, and the steering committee looks forward to welcoming you to
the conference and to Cambodia in September.
Paul Mahony
Chair of the Steering Committee
