The Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Liberal Arts, Thammasat
University, Bangkok, Thailand invites applications from non-Thai nationals
for a position of Instructor in Linguistics, to arrive the University by
15 October 2000. Successful candidate is expected to teach a variety of
linguistics courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, to
provide academic consultation and act as editor of English articles in our
Department's Journal of Language and Linguistics. The initial salary is
21,600 baht per month (plus another 8,000 baht for accommodation
allowance) (approximate currency exchange rate: $1 = 45 baht). The
contract is renewable on a yearly basis.
The candidate must be native speaker of English and hold at least an MA
(or preferably a PhD) in Linguistics from an accredited
university. Experience in teaching, research and/or knowledge of Thai
Linguistics would be a definite advantage.

The Department of Linguistics at Thammasat University is the oldest in
Thailand and the only to offer an undergraduate degree in linguistics as
well as a graduate degree which focusses on Thai linguistics. The
undergraduate curriculum comprises a comprehensive range of topics both in
general linguistics and in more specialised fields of linguistics. Both
theory and practical application to related disciplines are
emphasised. The Department of Linguistics publishes the Journal of
Language and Linguistics. Now in its thirteenth year, the Journal is the
only specialized linguistics publication of its type in Thailand.
