International Conference on Malay Lexicology and Lexicography (PALMA
2004)
7-8 December, 2004
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Malay language has undergone a tremendous advancement over the past four
decades. Its vocabulary has bloomed in tandem with the development of
new concepts in numerous disciplines or fields of knowledge. This
scenario should not only be recorded by dictionaries, but more
importantly, studies or research on the lexicological and
lexicographical developments of the Malay language should also be
carried out and its findings be documented.

The objectives of the conference are: (i) to discuss the practical and
theoretical aspects of Malay lexicography, (ii) to provide the
opportunity to highlight and discuss recent and existing research on
Malay lexicographic projects and publications, and (iii) to bring
together academics and professionals involved in Malay lexicological and
lexicographical studies, publishers and users of Malay dictionaries from
all over the world.

Areas of discussion are:
(i)         Computational lexicography and lexicology;
(ii)        Corpora and lexicography;
(iii)       Specialized lexicography - terminology and terminography;
(iv)       Reports on lexicographical and lexicological projects;
(v)        Practical and theoretical aspect of Malay lexicography;
(vi)       Monolingual lexicography;
(vii)      Bilingual lexicography
(viii)      Language education and dictionaries, and
(ix)       Dictionary critics.

There will be a keynote address by one of Malaysia's renowned linguists,
Professor Emeritus Dato's Dr. Asmah Hj. Omar and a plenary paper,
expected to be delivered by our invited speaker, Dr. Patrick Hanks, one
of Britain's leading lexicographers.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION SPECIFICATIONS:

Abstracts can be up to 300 words in length and should include the
following information: Title; Author's name; Affiliation; Country; Full
address including phone number and fax; and E-mail address. Please
