Subject: [LCTL-T] Karen literature course - examiner required

Dear colleagues

The International Baccalaureate Organization is currently seeking an
examiner to set papers and assess candidates for its proposed Karen
literature course (Karen A1). Please note that the position referred to
is part-time, involves no relocation, and would normally be undertaken
in addition to existing work commitments. There will be no marking work
required from the examiner until May 2005 at earliest, however, work on
examination papers will begin before that.

The IBO provides an international pre university curriculum and an
international university entry qualification, which gives access to
higher education on a worldwide basis. It is a non-profit educational
foundation based in Switzerland (though its main office of
administration is based in Cardiff in the UK); it is now represented in
over 100 countries and in over 1,000 schools. The IB Diploma Programme
model is based on the pattern of no single country but incorporates
elements of several.

One of the characteristics of the IB's diploma programme is that
students are required to study a literature (A1) course as one of six
subjects that constitute the diploma. The A1 course is studied in the
first language ("mother tongue") of the student and involves the study
of both the literature of the student's native language, and works of
world literature studied in translation. This course is offered at both
higher and standard level.

The duties of the post of examiner responsible include the setting and
marking of examinations and may (but rarely, for this subject) involve
occasional, paid travel to the IB Curriculum and Assessment Centre in
Cardiff.

We are seeking an experienced individual with the following background:

Native and fluent speaker of Karen
    Degree in Karen literature
    Teaching experience
Examining experience (desirable but not essential).

If you think you would be interested in taking on this position, please
can I ask you to contact me by e-mail so that more detailed information,
plus an application form, can be e-mailed or posted direct to you.

Thank you for taking an interest in this message.

Yours sincerely

Liz Roberts
Diploma Programme curriculum officer
Cardiff, UK
