Supervisory Language Training Specialist (Language Training Supervisor –
Southeast Asian Languages): U.S. Department of State, Foreign Service Institute
Would you like to use your fluency in another language to help strengthen and
improve the United States’ relationship with other countries? Would you like
to work with the Foreign Service Officers who represent the United States
abroad? Then this may be the job for you!
You will be a Language Training Supervisor (LTS) in the U.S. Department of
State, at the Foreign Service Institute.
The Foreign Service Institute is recruiting a Supervisory Language Training
Specialist for Southeast Asian languages.
In your position as Language Training Supervisor you will:
--Manage and direct a portion of the Southeast Asian language training
program, including courses which vary widely in length, frequency, and the
number of Language and Culture Instructors (LCI's) and students supervised.
--Recruit, train and develop Language and Culture Instructors to teach the
languages and cultures of Southeast Asia.
--Develop and monitor language training program(s) to bring students to high
levels of language proficiency.
--Manage groups of instructors and students whose political, cultural and
religious differences make coordination and counseling efforts interesting and
challenging.
--Design new courses and make extensive revisions in existing training courses.
--Become certified to administer and score official proficiency tests.
The Foreign Service Institute is the Federal Government's primary training
institution for officers and support personnel of the U.S. foreign affairs
community, preparing American diplomats and other professionals to advance
U.S. foreign affairs interests overseas and in Washington.
Requirements:
--United States Citizenship
--Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.
--Language Preferred - Professional Proficiency or higher in a Southeast Asian
language (Burmese, Indonesian, Khmer, Lao, Malay, Tagalog, Thai, or Vietnamese)
Salary: $ 74,872.00 - 115,742.00 (starting salaries vary and may be based in
part on superior academic achievement and/or previous work experience).
Location: Arlington, VA.
