The STEDT database is now available online!
The Sino-Tibetan Etymological Dictionary and Thesaurus project is pleased to
announce that the project's principal lexicographic database is now available
for public use via the world wide web.
The database, which has been used in the preparation of several printed
compendia in the domain of Sino-Tibetan linguistics, including The Handbook of
Proto-Tibeto-Burman: System and Philosophy of Sino-Tibetan Reconstruction
(2003) and The Tibeto-Burman Reproductive System: Toward an Etymological
Thesaurus (2008), contains 432,976 lexical items from 566 languages,
protolanguages, and dialects of the Sino-Tibetan linguistic area.
An initial version of the web interface may be found at:
http://stedt.berkeley.edu/search
Further background on Sino-Tibetan and the STEDT Project can be found at:
http://stedt.berkeley.edu/
Note that this web interface is new and not fully tested. It is designed to be
simple and accessible, but it does not yet implement a great many features
which we plan to incorporate in order to facilitate etymological research.
The STEDT project plans several releases, both of improved software as well as
the data itself, in the current grant cycle.
Your feedback and suggestions are solicited. You may submit them via the
website or email stedt at berkeley.edu.
