I have seen the film. It is set in modern Germany, but the actors still
appear antique! The result is such that crucifixion of Joshua takes place
beside a busy German highway, with passing tourists ocassionally gazing at
the show. Moreover, as was said above, the film concentrates only on Pilat
and Joshua (the scene where they talk is very good). It may bay said that
the metteur-en-scene took only the idea, and not the main contents, from
Bulhakov.
