Maria,
While it is not on the West Coast, it should be noted that the
largest repository of medieval Slavic manuscripts in the Western Hemisphere
is the Hilandar Research Library at the Ohio State University. In the past
several years the HRL has acquired hundreds of Russian manuscripts
(15th-19th cc.) on microfilm, including important collections from St.
Petersburg, Moscow, and Saratov. Altogether Hilandar owns thousands of
manuscripts (more than 600,000 pages), including Serbian, Bulgarian,
Wallachian, Russian, and Greek texts, as well as an invaluable collection
of non-circulating secondary sources.
The Ohio State University Research Library also has an extensive
microfilm collection of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century Russian printed
books.
