Mail to: listserv at cunyvm.cuny.edu
with no subject and in the body:
set seelangs nomail
before you wish to stop receiving messages.
After you return, mail to the same address with in the body:
set seelangs mail

Of course, you could also unsubscribe before leaving and resubscribe after
you're back.
