what is "snuff"?

Snuff is a powder made from tobacco and widely used in India by men.  IT
is an intoxicant and I think it makes one sneeze and gives a burning
sensation.  It is still used by Indians, especially artists and
businessmen.  I am sure it is the same powder used in Russia in 18 and 19
centuries.  Radha
