Addressing Rebecca Matveyev's question, there is a good article on
"Eastern Christianity" in the Encyclopedia of Religion. This article is 16
pages long, and refers to separate articles on particular Orthodox
churches in the same encyclopedia.

Judging by the physical condition of our library's copy of this
multi-volume encyclopedia, it is used frequently.
