In memoriam Terje Mathiassen (1938-1999)

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of Terje
Mathiassen on January 9. Terje Mathiassen was professor of Slavic and
Baltic languages at the University of Oslo. He was the author of several
monumental works, among which were new grammars of Lithuanian and Latvian.
He was a prominent member of the Norwegian and the Latvian Academies of
Sciences.
