Russian Film Recommendations

Dear Seelangers,

I'm seeking recommendations for about 5-10 Russian films to be used with
students.  These films must have decent English subtitles (the class is in
translation only), be easily obtainable, and should be culturally
accessible to students with no Russian background (language or culture).
They may address any topic or period of history, but  adaptations of
literary works would be particularly useful.

In addition, suggestions for how to mediate any recommended film in a class
situation, along with any words of experience, would be appreciated.
