Uslovnye Edenitsy are Conditional Units. They are somewhat artificial
units of measurement that people have agreed to use. They may be applied
in different fields. They are not based on the standard systems of
measurement and are very convenient when you have to evaluate something
of variable value. For example if you cut a pizza in 12 slices, you can
evaluate how much everybody ate just by counting the slices. You can
say that 0 is no pain and 10 is the worst pain you ever had and use it
to evaluate how different Pain Killers are helping you with headache.
Similar technic is widely used in tests (TOEFL, NCLEX, etc)when one's
score depends on everybody's score. Some popular systems of mesurement
have started as conditional. The Imperial system is a good example....
