Why students do not study Russian anymore

Where Russians quote poets ("kak
skazal poet", never mind which one), Americans quote the Bible.

I must be an anomaly then--quoting a poem is almost a conditioned reflex with
me.  (Since I grew up with the (very poetic) King James version of the bible
but Christianity never quite stuck on me,  I include that in my poetic
repertoire.)
