Cyrillic for email, etc on Macs

Dear all,

I am intending to buy a new (or newish) Apple Powerbook in the next month
or two.  I am not a computer expert -- although I do have access to help
-- and I like to keep things as simple as possible.  What are the
simplest and most reliable programmes for me to use in order to send and
receive email in Cyrillic, and to access Russian websites?

For the last few years I have been able to word-process in Cyrillic, but
not to do anything else.  The programmes I have been using are all around
4 years old -- Claris Works 4.0, Claris Emailer and Netscape Navigator
