Well said, indeed. Dr Emily Johnson said there were better travel
agents, but there is no way of knowing it!
You might hear of a reputable Russian travel agent, but you and
your friends know of just a few lucky cases; on the other hand,
travel agents in the West send hundreds of people to Russia and
they are very well informed of the customer satisfaction (the lift
from the airport, the hotel, the food, the theatre tickets, etc.)
The amount of information is simply incomparable.
What is most important is that you can take them to court in the West
if they cheat you. Theoretically speaking you can take a Russian
to a Russian court, but there is very little likelihood
that you will win the case (Russian public opinion would be very upset
if the verdict was in favour of foreigners. -- I admit there are
a few exceptions to this...)
Perhaps the best informed and the most efficient travel agents dealing
with travels to Russia are the ones in Finland. They do the job
very quickly, efficiently, and the service is the least costly.
