Lecturer in Serbian & Croatian Studies

The Department of Russian and Slavonic Studies is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Serbian and
Croatian studies from September 2003.  A specialist is required in one of the following fields:
historical, cultural or area studies.  The successful candidate will participate in teaching of the
Single and Joint Honours degree programmes in Serbian and Croatian studies.  The Lecturer will also
be expected to play a key role in developing the research project 'Loss and reclamation:
reconstructing identity among the shifting frontiers of former Yugoslavia' as phase 2 of the School
of Modern Languages umbrella research project 'Landless Voices'.  All members of staff in the
Department are required to undertake routine administrative tasks and the pastoral care of
undergraduate students.

Candidates should hold, or be near completion of, a PhD and must have a solid working knowledge of
the Serbian/Croatian language.  The ability to extend teaching into other geographic areas of
Central and East European studies will be a distinct advantage.

Salary will be within the range £22,191- £25,451 per annum, depending on qualifications and
experience.
