In Microsoft Word, if you go to Tools->Options->General (tab)-> check
Confirm conversion at Open, you will be able to import other documents and
see how your fonts are converting. When you open a file, a dialog will
appear, where you can choose the encoding or version of a document and see
what it does to your text. I guess that is the simplest way to import and
convert older-version documents, Web pages etc.
