Students scared of foreign languages (UK)

Dear Paul,
That's nothing. Their teachers/professors would fall to pieces if they
actually had to conduct a meeting in the language under discussion. In any
language, they don't "give" a talk, they read it instead. Who's going to
risk it? Why risk a language teaching job by actually using the language?
Fear has really big eyes.
