Russian (or Soviet) "urban legends"

Colleagues,

A friend wonders whether there are any characteristically Russian (or Soviet) "urban legends" in currency, or indeed whether the term has any meaning in Russian, apart from translations of English examples.

Any thoughts or examples would be welcome.
