I know it's also from the 1920s, and deals with South Africans rather than
Americans, but Eddie Roux's account of his visit to Moscow in 1928 as a
delegate of the South African Communist Party to the Sixth Congress of the
Comintern has some unusual insights (his autobiography was published as
_Rebel Pity_, London: Rex Collings, 1970)
