images of merchants

Well, Alexandr Ostrovsky's plays such as "Groza", "Volki i ovtsy",
"Bespridannitsa" (the last one was made into a popular melodrama "Zhestokii
romans" by El'dar Riazanov) are full of memorable images of merchants and of
"delovye liudi" in general.
But how far does your definition of a capitalist go? or of a person involved
in business affairs? Legal or illegal business? I am not sure Ostap Bender
qualifies here, but he's certainly a character undergraduate students would
find interesting.
Best wishes,
Elena
