Hello,
I am afraid "identichnost'" is somewhat official now even though it does sound unnatural. When we were editing a syllabus for a cultural studies course in Russia, the word "identichnost'" was used throughout for "identity", although some colleagues took the expression "kul'turnaia identichnost'" to mean "tozhdestvo dvukh kul'tur." Goes to show.
