Stalinist terror and genocide

This argument has certainly been made with respect to the famine in Ukraine following collectivization, as well as some of the deported nationalities such as the Chechens. It's important to remember, however, that genocide has a precise legal definition, and whether particular actions meet that definition doesn't render them any less horrifying. Perhaps a starting place might be to decide what the definition of genocide should be. The one contained in the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide (as implied by the etymology of the word genocide) would not include class.
