The Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures at the
University of Montana invites applications for a tenure-track
entry-level Assistant Professor position in Russian beginning Fall 2007.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in hand by July 31, 2007, demonstrate
native or near-native command of Russian and English, have documentation
of excellence in teaching, and have an active research agenda. A
generalist is preferred, who is able to teach a wide variety of
undergraduate courses in language, literature and culture, who is able
and willing to take a regular turn directing study abroad experiences in
Russia, who is interested in working in an interdisciplinary fashion
with colleagues inside and outside of the Department, and who is
committed to building a strong Russian and East European Program.
Qualified applicants should send materials (a letter of interest,
current curriculum vitae, graduate transcript with proof of Ph.D.
awarded, and three current letters of reference, two of which must
address teaching ability) to Robert W. Acker, Chair, Department of
Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures, University of Montana,
Missoula, MT 59812-6192. 

Review of applications will begin on Jan. 17, 2007 and continue until
the position is filled. The Search Committee will conduct phone
interviews of the leading candidates in lieu of interviewing at AATSEEL
or MLA, and finalists will be invited to the University of Montana for
