Fascinating stuff, but doesn't really explain *what* happens, only 
*when* it happens. For example, it says that "Redukcija glasnyx -- eto i 
jest' oslablenie glasnyx v bezudarnom polozhenii," but it doesn't say 
whether that means raising (чийковский едит/ch'ijkofsk'ij jedit) or 
centralizing the sound (чəйковский едьəт/ch'əjkofsk'ij jed'ət, where "ə" 
is schwa). Or does the author mean to say that "ъ" and "ь" are backish 
schwa and frontish schwa, respectively?
