The Russian Program of the Graduate School of Translation and
Interpretation (GSTI) at the Monterey Institute of International
Studies (MIIS) is taking applications from students interested in
studying for an MA degree. A two-year Master's Degree program is
available in translation, interpretation, a combination of both
translation and interpretation, or in the newly emerging field of
translation/localization. A number of short courses and certificate
programs are also available. Upon graduation GSTI students have been
employed by international and governmental organizations, NGOs,
academic and scientific institutions, business and the private sector.
GSTI graduates have worked at UN meetings, Pacific Rim trade
negotiations, the Olympic Games, and have translated technical
specifications and manuals, books and scientific papers, and literary
works
Despite the growing demand for translators and interpreters,
professional training for such positions is available at only a limited
number of institutions worldwide, and this is the only two-year program
in the US providing such training. In 2005, the Monterey Institute
became an affiliate of Middlebury College. Native English/US
citizenship not required. Students must have BA or equivalent; some
scholarship assistance available.
