Deborah Hoffman's Mid-VED-dyeff isn't bad, certainly better than Paul Gallagher's Mid-VED-iff with its bad syllabification.  But let's remember that palatalized dental stops in Russian are somewhat affricated.  So I propose Midge-VAY-jiff.
