As Dale Spender has pointed out, many women writers who were famous in
their day were later written out of the literary histories. Evdokiia
Rostopchina in the early nineteenth century - Nadezhda Khvoshchinskaia
(better known at the time as "V. Krestovsky, psevdonim") in the era of the
Great Russian Novel - and Mirra Lokhvitskaia in the early Silver Age were
all quite highly regarded by contemporaries, and other women writers (Anna
Bunina, Karolina Pavlova) were rather thoroughly forgotten before they
were rediscovered by Russian scholars and/or writers.
