Your methods work well for и and ы (I assume that's what the question
marks represent), but not for а, е, о, or у. The prefab accented vowels
you find in the symbol table are NOT Cyrillic characters, they are Roman
ones, as for use in French, Czech, etc.
This is important if you hope to do any spell-checking -- if your
software is smart enough to ignore the diacritics, it will flag mixed
words like столá. If it's not smart enough to ignore the diacritics,
it's a moot point because it will flag every word with an accent.
And of course, purists will recognize that Roman y and Cyrillic у look
different, especially in the upper case.
