So long as the student can get locations for the locations, he/she might be
able to located them with Google Earth or Google Maps

This site doesn't have major amount of pictures on line, but as it's the
State Gulag Museum, the contact information could probably yield some good
sources. (Though you may need to contact them in Russian).
