There was something called *Russian Journal* by Andrea Lee, a small
paperback with some pretty canny observations, and engagingly written.
You don't realize for a while that she is a woman of color (well, I didn't
for a while) and she doesn't make a big point of the issue of racial
identity, but it's there.
