How about

In Russia, only the gypsies got the best from/out of the guitar.
or
In Russia, only the gypsies mastered the guitar.

In English, it feels less natural to put the emphasized phrase "only the 
gypsies" at the end, but it's normal in Russian. I mean, "in Russian 
it's normal." ;-)

Of course, I claim no expertise in British. You probably have a 
different way of putting things.
