Thank you, Gasan, Sarah and Françoise! I believe these links are relevant and important. They are certainly representative of two different communities.
I cannot identify most of the names of those Russian writers either but I know at least some of these names, such as Valentin Rasputin and Aleksandr Artsybashev. The overt soviet rhetoric of their letter is revealing. It's a deja vu of the Soviet Union events and opinions.
