Here's a question you might ask yourself. It comes from one posted on
LinguistList, but it's always an interesting one in a Siouan language:
how do the Siouan languages you are familiar with handle 'to fetch'?
In Omaha-Ponca this involves a family of serial verbs agi + verb of
motion. The result is a transitive verb and can be dativized as egi +
verb of motion, with e < a + gi. The stem gi is a verb of motion itself,
and both gi and the embedded verb are inflected to agree with the subject.
