Like John, I have never heard of the Ioways being referred to as "Prairie
People". Certainly, they, the Baxoje/ Jiwere People have not used that
term in English nor anything akin to it within the Baxoje/ Jiwere
language. Nor have I seen/ heard of any surrounding/ neighboring tribal
communities referr to them by such a term, either in their language or in
English.
Perhaps, this is another case of the non-Native documented
misinformations or presumptions that has miscolored Native Peoples and
their associated cultures.
