In any case, while the default is .wpd for WordPerfect, you do not have to
use it.
You can change that by going into Environment, then files and unclicking the
"use .wpd"
file extension.

The dictionary is not transferrable to Word even though many Wordperfect
files can be transferred. This is because of the diacritics over the
letters that are installed by a special program in Wordperfect that allows
overstrikes. You have to have Wordperfect for Windows to read the file.
With WP is looks just fine.

No, Wordperfect documents have a .WPD extension, not .DOC. Also, it
shouldn't be a problem even so, provided you keep the Word and Wordperfect
files in different subdirectories. If you install Wordperfect, it should
install a subdirectory called "My Files" or "Corel user files" that is
distinct from the "My Documents" under Word. Put the dict. and grammar
files in the Corel files folder and Wordperfect will find them properly.
Don't let your consultant charge you for that information. :-)
