For what it's worth, the principle, maybe only, Omaha-Ponca term for
evergreen is ma(a)'si.  Fletcher & LaFlesche gloss it as 'red cedar'.
This reflects Proto-Mississippi Valley *Wa(a)'zi (with "funny w").
