Actually, this is another item to add to our collection of non-
universals :-) There indeed are types of performances (e.g. in Arabo-
Irano-Turkic and South Asian musics) that are rhythmically, but not
metrically organized...

... interestingly, Ancient Near Eastern poetry was like that, too,
