That might make a reasonable item for the business meeting next year.
For years I've referred to it as "the Siouan and Caddoan Conference"
abbreviated SACC, and I notice that a lot of people now seem to like
"Siouan and Caddoan Languages Conference," abbreviated SACL or SCLC, but I
think the only consistent practice over the years has been to use some
phrase with "Siouan" and "Caddoan" and "Conference" in it.

We've always stuck to the Caddoan, even though circumstances - mainly the
shortage of Caddoanists - have often made it a hollow claim.  The basis of
the inclusion is partly that most of the Caddoanists are also Sioanists,
notably David Rood, who, with his student Tom Sorci founded the
conference.  It is also a fairly rasonable association in geographic and
cultural terms.

I'm fairly certain that the Macro-Siouan hypothesis is also a relevant
factor, though within this framework the Iroquoianists aren't included
because they have their own, bigger meeting with a different geogaphic and
cultural association.  Yuchi wasn't mentioned in the original title.  I
don't think there have ever been enough Yuchi specialists at one time to
rub together and make a conference.  There may be less of a geographical
and cultural conneciton, too.  I'd certainly welcome any Yuchi(anist?) who
cared to come.

I'm not sure why non-Siouanists Caddoanists don't come more regularly.
We're a really friendly bunch, but the non-Caddoanists among us probably
do have a look of open-mouthed astonishment during the Caddoan
presentations that may be a bit off-putting, while perhaps the Caddoanists
have a certain "is that all"  attitude to the Siouan.  Perhaps we don't
really share many specific linguistic interests beyond our common interest
in Amerindian languages as a whole.  I suppose Siouan might be a bit more
like Muskogean grammatically than Caddoan (or Iroquoian).

I asked Catherine to post this because I thought it might make things a
bit easier for the discipline in terms of documenting the history of the
Conference.  I should point out that John Boyle and Ardis Eschenberg were
putting together a web page that documents some of the early history of
the Conference.  I don't know if that is avalable or where it might be,
but there is a list of the earlier meetings at:
