That's such a wonderful thing to have said!  I believe Ken Hale encouraged
a great many students to do descriptive linguistics, with equal emphasis
on descriptive and linguistics, from what I've seen.  This might be a good
moment to remember Josie White Eagle, too:  also unfortunately no longer
with us.  She was one of Ken's students and another fellow Siouanist.
