several years ago there was a disney saturday cartoon episode of 'the little
mermaid' with a signing, deaf, mermaid character.  the character was based on
an actual little girl.  i'm not sure where i heard about it, but probably on
'deaf mosaic.'  you can contact gallaudet (probably the dept. of
tv/film/photography) about tracking down that 'deaf mosaic' episode.
