I was reading posts to SLLING-L listserv and I wanted to share with you
the wonderful program that we have here at Teachers College, Columbia
University in preparing students to becoe teachers of ASL. The following
is the blurb about the program and a website address is included for your
perusal.
TEACHERS COLLEGE, COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY
Teaching of American Sign Language as a Foreign Language
Master of Arts Program
*Students will be provided with opportunities for scholarly study,
research, and teaching practica experiences in linguistics and applied
linguistics; anthropology and sociolinguistics; social and cognitive
psychology, second language acquisition, instructional design, curriculum
development, and assessment; and research methodology, as they pertain to
the language, community, and culture of persons who are Deaf and hard of
hearing.
*Master of Arts degree and New York State Teacher Certification in the
Teaching of American Sign Language as a Foreign Language granted upon
successful completion of the program. Certification reciprocity agreement
with 40 other states are at hand.
*Housing and tuition financial assistance available.
