Assistant Professor of American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf Studies /
Director of the ASL Program
The University of Virginia seeks a candidate for a tenure-track position as
Assistant Professor of American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf Studies and
Director of the ASL Program. The Director will schedule and coordinate
courses; hire, train and evaluate part-time instructors in ASL; supervise
curriculum development; coordinate the work of outside consultants as
needed; develop criteria for placement of students with prior training in
ASL within the University; plan, organize and raise funds for lecture
series. Teaching responsibilities include one or two ASL courses and two
courses in Deaf Studies.
Qualifications include demonstrated competence in ASL instruction at the
college level; PhD or equivalent in related field, administrative and
fund-raising experience preferred.
