Perception study -- ASL vs. Gestures

Adam,
What do you mean by "emblems"? Things like "come here", "stop", "hi", "be quiet"? Group membership or other (semi-)secret signs in the non-SL sense of "(secret) sign", such as gang or lodge recognition signals?
