[Slling-l] Open position: Professorship for Sign Language Interpreting at Humboldt-University of Berlin, Germany

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Special Education, invites applications for a

Full Professorship for Sign Language Interpreting (W3)

 from October 1, 2016.

The professor for sign language interpreting is attached to the research cluster “language and communication” within the department of special education, which is dedicated to exploring causes and consequences of individual and social barriers to communication and which tries to develop instruments and strategies to overcome them. 

The person to be appointed will have to cover the field of sign language interpreting in teaching and research in its entirety. She or he is expected to have an excellent command of sign language and several years’ experience in practical or theoretical interpreter training and in teaching sign language linguistics. Research interests of the future incumbent should focus on at least two of the following subject areas:

-       general sign language linguistics (linguistic theory, grammar, lexicography)

-       applied sign language linguistics (translation analysis, language teaching)

-       sociolinguistic or cultural studies related to sign language and the Deaf community

The cooperation with colleagues of other areas of expertise is expected.

The applicants must meet the legal requirements for professorial appointment in accordance with § 100 of the Berliner Hochschulgesetz.
