[Slling-l] Question about SL planning and status

Dear all,

To supplement Roland’s information on the Netherlands: these lexicon standardisation efforts in the Netherlands have not had the intended effect of gaining legal recognition by the government: they were required by the government before recognition could take place, the standardisation project was completed in 2002, and only now there is an independent (and very light) proposal for legal recognition of NGT. The recognition has arguably made the linguistic landscape more complex for interpreters, teachers, and learners. (See Crasborn, O., & Bloem, T. (2009).
