Subject: IDR2018 call for abstracts
To: <slling-l at listserv.valenciacollege.edu>
Dear fellow researchers,
I wish to invite you to submit abstracts for the first Irish Deaf Research conference IDR2018. Please see the call for abstracts communique below.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IDR2018 – The first Irish Deaf Research Conference on Irish Sign Language and Deafness
In December 2017, the Irish Sign Language Recognition Bill was signed into law by the President of Ireland. This marked a historic moment for sign language users across the State. In tandem with this, work has been developing on a range of issues that map to key points addressed in the legislation, namely language description, language rights, access to civil society via interpretation, the right to equal access to education, employment and self-determination.
The Irish Deaf Research Network (IDRN) is pleased to announce the first Irish Deaf Research Conference IDR2018 on Irish Sign Language and Deafness, hosted by the Centre for Deaf Studies in the Trinity long room hub, Trinity College, Dublin on Friday, November 9th, 2018. Abstract submission is now open until 20th July 2018. Notification of acceptance 10th August 2018.
Call For Abstracts:
We invite 20-minute (plus 10-minute discussion) presentation proposals on the following general topics:
* Living life as a sign language user
* Applied sign language linguistics
* Linguistic theory and Sign Languages
* Irish Sign Language and technology
* Irish Sign Language and education
* Policy development for sign language users
There will be signed/spoken presentations (20 minutes and 10 minutes discussion) as well as a poster session.
Abstracts should be submitted in pdf format through the IDR2018 Easychair website page: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=idr2018 . Abstracts are also accepted in ISL, using popular video codecs such as .mov, .avi, and .mp4. If submitting an abstract via ISL video, please email to idr2018 at easychair.org, before the deadline.
Abstracts should be anonymised (with no author names in the text). The anonymous abstract should include the title and indicate whether it is intended for poster or signed/spoken presentation. Abstracts should be no longer than 500 words (including tables, examples and references), in 12-point font, single line spacing and 2.5 cm margins. ISL video submissions should endeavor to follow a similar ‘word’ count and structure.
Abstracts will be reviewed by the IDR2018 Programme Committee. A maximum of two submissions (one of which must be co-authored) can be submitted by any single individual.
