Dear SW List Members:
For those of you who do not own FileMaker, in 2003 we hope to publish the SignBank database on the web. It will not require any new software...only your web browser, such as Internet Explorer or Netscape, and a good internet connection...

You will be able to search for signs, and to read the Lessons and SymbolBank directly on the internet. However, you will not be able to make any changes to the web database....only read and print...

Publishing databases on the web is not an easy task from our technical point of view, but with the combination of FileMaker Server software, our programmer's expertise, and my maintenance of the web database, it appears it can be a reality in 2003...I will be running it from my home, on my own computers. It may be a little slow, but we will see if that is a problem once the web database is published...It can always be moved to a faster machine later, if we have enough web-visitors to warrant added speed.

Meanwhile, those who wish to create their own dictionaries will still need FileMaker Pro and SignBank on their computers...

Just thought you would like to know! ;-)
